A college education has never been more important. It’s the surest path to good jobs that pay well and it’s vital to our nation’s continued growth and prosperity. Yet spiraling costs and crushing debt are creating barriers to higher education even for most middle class families. Those who borrow the money for school find themselves unable to buy homes or cars long after they graduate. As a country, it is our duty to make a college education affordable for every qualified student who desires one.
It’s time to make tuition at our public colleges and universities free.
I stand with Redeeming America’s Promise to call for action at the federal, state and community levels to make sure the next generation of students have access to college without facing crushing debt at the end of their studies.
It’s time to extend the time-tested value of universal, free education to the Millennial Generation.
